DIY Ring Sling

My first sewing tutorial! Let’s be real, I’m not a big sewer but this little DIY is super simple – and if I can do it, you can for sure!! I spied a ring sling on Instagram the other day and I just loved it as a baby carrier (we also have a Babybjörn carrier but these ring slings just look super nice!).
I got some linen material in a nice neutral color and a pair of golden aluminium rings and got started. This is how I did it:

Ich habe solch ein Tragetuch letztens bei Instagram gesehen und war sofort verliebt. Wir haben zwar auch eine Babybjörn Trage aber ich finde diese Tragetücher einfach viel schöner. Also habe ich mir Leinenstoff und ein Paar goldene Aluminiumringe besorgt und los gelegt. Und so geht’s:

WHAT YOU NEED // WAS DU BRAUCHST:

• 187 cm of fabric // 187 cm Stoff

• 2 medium or large aluminium rings like these // 2 medium oder grosse Aluminiumringe wie diese

• Matching thread // passenden Faden

• Pins // Stecknadeln

• Scissors // Schere

• Fabric pen // Markierstift/Kreide

• Sewing machine // Nähmaschine

Cut your fabric down the middle so that you have two pieces of fabric that are 187 cm long by about 63 – 75 cm wide. You will use one of the pieces of fabric to make one ring sling. // Schneide deinen Stoff in der Mitte der Länge entlang, sodass du zwei Stoffstücke hast, die 187 cm lang und etwa 63 – 75 cm breit sind. Du wirst eines der Stoffstücke verwenden, um ein Tragetuch herzustellen.
To make a finished edge, start with one of the long sides and fold over 0.5cm. Then fold the fabric over 0.5cm one more time so that the raw edge is encased in the folds and pin. Do the same for the other long side, and then the two short sides. // Damit die Seiten nicht ausfransen, falte eine der langen Seiten bei etwa 0,5 cm. Sew over three sides (two long and one short). Starting at a corner, sew up one of the long sides, pivot at the corner and continue over one of the short sides; pivot again and sew down the other long side, leaving the second short side unfinished. Back stitch at the beginning and end. // Nähe drei der Seiten (zwei ange und eine kurze). Beginne an einer Ecke, nähe eine der langen Seiten, schwenke an der Ecke und fahre über eine der kurzen Seiten fort. Schwenke erneut und nähe die andere lange Seite fest, wobei die zweite kurze Seite unvollendet bleibt. Rückstich am Anfang und Ende nicht vergessen.
Measure 38cm down from the end that is not sewn. Draw a straight line all the way across the fabric. // Messe 38cm von dem Ende, dass nicht vernäht wurde und ziehe eine waagerechte Linie.
Get the end that is not sewn and pull it through both rings. Make sure not to twist the fabric while pulling it through. // Ziehe das Ende, das nicht vernäht ist durch beide Ringe. Achte darauf, dass du das Material dabei nicht verdrehst.
Line up the unsewn edge with the line you just made. The finished edges should face each other, then pin well. // Lege die ungenähte Seite auf die waagerechte Linie, die du gezogen hast, stecke es gut mit Stecknadeln fest und nähe es zusammen.
Sew over both layers of fabric, as close to the edge as possible. Back stitch at the beginning and end. Sew another line above that. Back stitch at the beginning and end. Sew one more line above that (for a total of 3 lines). Back stitch at the beginning and end. // Nähe so nah wie möglich am Rand über beide Stofflagen. Rückstich am Anfang und Ende. Nähe eine weitere Linie darüber und anschliessend eine weitere Linie darüber (für insgesamt 3 Linien). Rückstich am Anfang und Ende nicht vergessen.
